Japan has an exciting number of mythological animals, one of which is the Kirin (sort of a dragonly-unicorny-giraffe). The Kirin in this image is wrapped around a shamisen, a Japanese instrument, with an Inari fox shrine in the background. The other mythical beast in Japanese folklore is the Bakeneko,(monster cat), which look like regular cats but have two tails.
