Collection curator Bill Dreyer writes in the preface to the Secrets of the Deep book: “While researching Ted’s paintings and sculpture at his La Jolla home, I became aware that Ted and Audrey kept more than forty artworks behind a concealed false door that were publicly unknown and unpublished, all waiting for Audrey to reveal them to Ted’s fans.”

Cuddle Fish is one of these artworks, kept close at hand by Ted throughout his lifetime which to this day resides with Audrey in the Geisel home. In the vein of the Horton Line Drawing, this work exudes classic Seussian charm and confirms the Good Doctor’s breezy artistic talent.
